Obituary

Our beloved wife/mother/grandmother Rocquelyn "Rocky" Jastak was born on Monday February 15, 1937, in Ilion, New York, to Barbara and Louis Urgo. She and her younger brother, Louis, were raised in Frankfort, New York, where Rocky graduated from Frankfort High School in 1954. Rocky went on to attend Marywood College in Scranton, PA, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1958. It was at Seton Hall College of Medicine and Dentistry in Jersey City, NJ, where she met the future love of her life, Ted Jastak, while they were both buying books for their first day of classes. They graduated together from Seton Hall in June of 1962 and were married a week later. Daughter Lisa arrived in 1963, followed by son Karl in 1965 and son Eric in 1969.

Later in 1969, Rocky and Ted decided to bring the family west and establish their respective medical careers in Oregon. Rocky entered private practice with the Rosenbaum Clinic and began her lengthy career in Portland as an Internist, eventually retiring from her practice with Cascade Physicians in 1996.
Following her "retirement," Rocky worked part-time as a physician for the United States Naval Air Station in Whidbey Island, Washington, where she and Ted established their home base and hosted family and friends for many years. Rocky was an amazing cook, and those of us lucky enough to enjoy her creations loved her meatballs, sauce, Italian Wedding soup, manicotti, lasagna, and lemon cake, to name a few favorites.

In addition to her love of cooking, Rocky was an avid gardener and maintained a beautiful space of roses, herbs, and flowers. She loved watching football and basketball and had season tickets to the Portland Trailblazers beginning with their opening year. She and Ted also enjoyed travelling, concerts, and time with family, welcoming grandchildren Kirstin, Evan, Mia, Jon, Maddie, and Ethan over the years. Rocky also leaves behind son-in-law Chris, daughter-in-law Xia, and daughter-in-law Steffany.

Our cherished Rocky passed peacefully and surrounded by family on September 14, 2022. All who met her were changed for the better, and she will be missed by so many. An open-house Celebration of Life will be held at Ironlight in Lake Oswego from 1:00-6:00 pm on Saturday October 29, 2022.
