Obituary

Robert A. (Bob) Weik Sr of Aurora, took the greatest ride of his life on July 21st, 2022 when he rode home to Heaven.

Born in Bend, Or on May 18, 1939, he is the son of Elmer & Elizabeth Weik. He was later joined by brothers Bill and Jim. As they were growing up, the family moved to Salem, Eugene, and Los Altos, CA. Bob graduated from Fremont Union HS in Cupertino, CA in 1957. He then enlisted in the US Navy. His most memorable assignments were Argentina, Newfoundland, and assisting on a PT Excursion boat in New York Harbor. In 1962, after completing his time in the Navy, he moved to Newberg, OR to join his family.

In the fall of 1962, Bob began working in Portland at the Freightliner Corporation. For 34 years he worked in Material Handling and he was proud to work for Freightliner trucks. His greatest enjoyment came from the people he worked with like Steve Farrow, Bob Kennedy, Chuck Stark and so many others who became lifelong friends. He loved having his brothers work at Freightliner and that is where he met Marilyn in late 1973.

Bob enjoyed life and had numerous interests. In his early years at Freightliner, he met John Weygandt who introduced Bob to shooting fireworks. Bob loved it and continued shooting for Western Fireworks for 33 years. His excitement was contagious and he involved family and friends. They all enjoyed some very memorable times together.

If you knew Bob, you knew he loved cars. He started working on his first car at age 14 and never looked back. He loved the challenge of working on the motors and taking a broken car and rebuilding it. He lost track of the number of cars he fixed up. Bob especially enjoyed the many friendships he made through the years as he worked on cars. He loved working alongside his dear friend, Chuck Morrison in the shop. They were still working on several projects when Bob became ill.

Bob loved spending time in the Blue Mountains of Eastern Oregon at his Aunt's cabin. He loved observing the wildlife, particularly the elk, deer, hawks, and owls. Highlights of his life were the times spent at the cabin with his family and the many years he hunted elk with trusted friend Dee Pileggi and later, Doug Swartout.

Bob attended the Butteville Community Church for over 40 years serving as a Trustee and later as an Elder. Bob enjoyed serving Christ alongside the congregation.

Bob is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Marilyn of Aurora, his daughter Shatrine, son-in-law Glenn, and 2 grandchildren, Audrey and Max of West Linn, and son Rob [Robert Jr.) of Wilsonville. He is also survived by his 2 brothers, Bill of Woodburn and Jim of Lake Oswego.

In the midst of pain and suffering, God gave us treasures. Here are some of them and we are so very grateful. After he became ill, Bob and Marilyn were continually amazed at the incredible care God provided through the doctors, nurses, aides, and staff at Portland Providence Hospital. We saw their endless work and commitment to saving lives and we appreciate you so much. The members of our Providence Home Health team, as well as our Providence Home Infusion team, were simply the very best. All of you became like family to us, we cannot thank you enough for your phenomenal care and 24/7 commitment to helping Bob. One of God's great treasures to us is Dr. Christy Dunst, her team, and the entire staff. Dr. Dunst, you are such a gifted surgeon and such an amazing woman. Thank you for giving your life and skills to save others. May God richly bless you, your team and staff, and your work. It is really difficult to find a word to describe the gift God gave us in our Oncologist, Dr. Rom Leidner [Co-Medical Director Providence Head & Neck Cancer Program and Cancer Research Specialist]. His commitment to battle cancer, his care of and for Bob, his humble heart, his consistent help, encouragement, inspiration, and his sense of humor are unmatched. Dr. Leidner, you gave us so much more than 'medical care,' you are indeed a treasured gift of God, and as a family, we will continue to pray for you, your family, your work, and your great staff.

To everyone who blessed and enriched our lives through the gift of your prayers, your texts, emails, calls, lovely cards, treats or meals, short visits when Bob felt up to it, feeding kitty, mowing the lawns, or watering the plants; thank you for your love and friendship, those gifts blessed Bob 'pressed down and running over.'
