John Thomas Meade of Wilsonville, Oregon passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024, at age 81. John was born in Gary, Indiana on February 25, 1943, to Jack and Louise Meade.
John enlisted in the US Navy in 1962 at age 19 and was a submariner until 1967 at which time he was accepted into the Naval Enlisted Scientific Education Program (NESEP). He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Math at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. Upon graduation from college in 1971 he was commissioned a Naval Flight Officer and was a navigator on C130's. His Navy career took him all over the world and he had been to all seven continents. He retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander in 1992 after serving 16 years active duty and 13 years in the Navy Reserve. John also worked in the Computing Services Departments of the University of Idaho and Washington State University and was a Technical Writer at Microsoft. His quest for knowledge never wavered, not only in technology, but in all aspects of the world around him.
He married Helen Leither on August 9, 1969, and they have been married 55 years. They had two children, Trevor and Sara, and four grandchildren. John loved his family and cherished time spent with his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, nature, photography, taking road trips, family reunions, and was always ready for the next adventure.
John is survived by his wife, Helen Meade, son Trevor (Melody) Meade of Deer Park, Washington, four grandchildren: Jesse Fleck of Pullman, Washington, Chloe Fleck of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Ben Meade of Battleground, Washington, Jack Meade of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Louise Meade, his sister Susan Livingston, and daughter Sara Meade.
A memorial service will be held at St Cyril Catholic Church in Wilsonville at 11:00 am on October 28, 2024. A Celebration of Life will be held in Spokane, WA on November 9, 2024.
