Dr. Jerry McNerney, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away October 11, 2023.

Jerry was born in Osborne, Kansas. He moved to the Oregon fruit country with his parents and extended family when he was seven years old and settled in the Hood River Valley. He is a graduate of Parkdale High School and while attending, was an avid athlete. Later he graduated from Willamette University and the University of Oregon Dental School. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Navigator-Bombardier from 1956 to 1959. Jerry met Carole Sigler when attending Parkdale Elementary. On the first day of school, Carole's brother Ron brought Jerry home for lunch and this is when their relationship began. Jerry and Carole celebrated their 71st anniversary in August 2023.

Jerry practiced General Dentistry in Woodburn from 1963 to 1987 and in Portland from 1987 to 1997. While a dentist in Woodburn, Jerry was very active in his community. He was a member of Woodburn Jaycees, served as Woodburn Chamber of Commerce President, was a charter member and president of French Prairie Kiwanis, was on the budget committee of the Woodburn School District, and was an elder in the Woodburn First Presbyterian Church.

In 1995, the Oregon Academy of General Dentistry honored Jerry as "Dentist of the Year."

Jerry and Carole shared a love of traveling. In 1987, he and Carole served three months at a dental clinic in Vengurla, India as mission volunteers. A favorite travel destination was also Maui, Hawaii. When Jerry wasn't working, attending family activities, or traveling he played his trombone in a community band.

In retirement, Jerry worked extensively on broadening his painting skills. He was a member of the Oregon Society of Artists and had the privilege of studying with several renowned artists over the years.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Carole McNerney of Wilsonville, OR, brothers, Jim McNerney (Sylvia) of Vancouver and Steen McNerney of Parkdale, OR, daughter, Jeri Lyn Reinertsen (Chris) of Tigard, OR, son, Jon (Cathy) McNerney of London, England, daughter, Lee Ann McNerney of Tualatin, OR, and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the "Maui Strong Fund", Hawaii Community Foundation, and the American Cancer Society.

Jerry's memorial service and interment will be held at Parkdale Community Church on November 25th, 2023 at 1:00 PM in Parkdale, Oregon.
