Obituary

Jean Miller Doty, 94, died peacefully on June 18, 2022 in Wilsonville, Oregon. She was born Norma Jean Miller on March 12, 1928 in Kalispell, Montana, to Ora and Beulah Miller. She was the fifth of eight children. She graduated from Flathead County High School and then attended Bushnell University (formerly Northwest Christian College), in Eugene, Oregon. There she met Orris Lee Doty and they were married July 8, 1949.

Soon after their wedding, Orris started as a weekend student minister at Molalla Christian Church in Molalla, Oregon, eventually becoming their fulltime minister in 1950. And thus began Jean's role as a pastor's wife.

She worked secretarial jobs to help put Orris through seminary. After seminary they moved to Coquille, Oregon and began their long and fruitful ministry to Christ and the Church. They served together for 15 years in Coquille (1957-1972), then 12 years at Kern Park Christian Church, Portland, Oregon (1972-1984). When Orris taught at Manhattan Christian College in Manhattan, Kansas (1984-1990) Jean was involved in women's ministry conferences.

Orris and Jean retired in 1990 and moved to Turner Retirement Homes in Turner, Oregon. For the next 10 years, they served in interim ministries at 10 different churches, serving each from 3 to 14 months. Their life together was of service to Christ and the Church.

She enjoyed gardening, traveling, puzzles, and any kind of game. She always had an open door for guests and hosted many people in her home.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Orris Doty, sisters Opal Horstman and Donna Hanson, and brothers Orville Miller and Frederick Miller. Jean is survived by her three children: Tim Doty and his wife, Debbie; Loren Doty and his wife, Denise; Milene Henry and her husband Keith, and 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as her sisters Lela Triplett and Marilyn Wilken, and brother Jeryl Miller.

The family will be having a private celebration of her life.
