Obituary

Edward Dennis Lacey was born on November 2, 1933 in Portland, OR to Nancy Ann Lacey (McGovern) and William Francis Lacey. He grew up on a farm in Tualatin, OR where Browns Ferry Park is now. He attended Our Lady of the Lake for primary school and graduated from Central Catholic in 1951. He attended University of Portland majoring in Engineering before enlisting in the Army and serving in Korea before being honorably discharged in 1958.

Ed married the love of his life Maurine Elizabeth Seratt on December 26, 1968. Together they raised four children while balancing the demands of managing and owning restaurants throughout the years. They first owned The Old Barn and ultimately Lacey's Cocktails & Dining in Lake Oswego. They were an amazing team!

Although Ed's parents envisioned him becoming a Catholic Priest, he spent many of his early years as a liquor salesman, insurance agent, and realtor. He felt most at home behind a bar creating cocktails and making people laugh. If you ever sat at one of his restaurants, then you already know…he knew your drink of choice and always knew your name.

Ed loved his family and all things sports. He was a long time Blazer season ticket holder, golfed routinely his entire life, and may have taped every sporting event on TV. Joined by his friends, he was lucky enough to hit a hole-in-one on May 24, 2011 at the ripe age of 77. He also enjoyed gardening, reading a good book, and listening to live music…even if it was just him singing in the shower. And of course, he eventually became ordained by the Universal Life Church Monastery to fulfill a very special occasion and act as the officiant for two of his Granddaughter's weddings.

Ed & Maurine made their home in the Charbonneau district of Wilsonville for the past 18 years and previously resided in Tualatin for over 25 years. He is survived by his wife, Maurine Lacey, of 53 years. Sons Gerald Dietz (Renate) of Oregon City, William Stevens (Sarah) of Tigard, and daughter Shelly Lacey-Maulding (Christopher) of Newberg. Daughter Katherine Stevens-Sills (Bill) predeceased him in 2003. Grandchildren: Julia McVay, J.D. Dietz, Sean Dietz, Emily Ryan, Rachael Howe, and Cora Maulding, along with 10 great-grandchildren.

Ed unexpectedly passed away on April 28, 2021 of a heart attack. He had golfed with his buddies at his favorite course the day before and spent the day with his favorite person, Maurine, his Queen. Maurine said they had just the perfect day together.

A graveside service is planned for St. Anthony's Cemetery in Tigard, OR on Saturday, August 7th at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of life will follow at 1:00 p.m. Charbonneau Country Club at the outdoor pavilion, to enjoy food and drinks and share stories and memories of this amazing human. In lieu of flowers the family kindly suggests donations to Doernbecher Children's Hospital, Oregon Food Bank or the Oregon Humane Society.

Some people just make you feel better when you are around them. Ed was and always will be that person. He was sunshine for your soul, medicine for your mind and music for your heart.
