Woodburn, OR – Our beloved mother Chizuru "Tomi" (Tominaga) Rardin, age 88, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, after battling stage-four lung cancer over the past 5 years.
Tomi was born in Sasebo, Japan. She met her husband, James D. Rardin, while he served in the U.S. Navy. They were married in 1958. Tomi enjoyed oil painting, gardening, and quilting. She especially enjoyed playing bingo in her later years.
After her three children were off to attend college, Tomi completed her associate's degree at Clackamas Community College and worked for Lewis & Clark College, and later, for Michael's of Oregon.
Tomi will be remembered as a proud, honorable, hardworking, and resilient woman. She showed tremendous courage in her battle with cancer. Her spirit will live on with all who were touched by her grace and quiet dignity.
Tomi was preceded in death by her husband, James. She is survived by her younger sister Kotoji Richards, and her children Joseph Rardin (Lorraine), David Rardin, and Laura Rardin. She was also a grandmother to Adam Rardin (Courtney), Heather Rardin Rovardi (Mike), Patrick Rardin (Emily), and an adopted grandmother to Chelsea Redinger (Jim). Tomi is also survived by two great-grandchildren (Finn and Hilde Rardin) and three adopted great-grandchildren (Peter, Annalea and Maggie Redinger).
A private service will take place at Willamette National Cemetery on April 19, 2024.
